Accommodation first, rebuilding lives in Lleida
Housing First is an innovative program which main aim is providing a decent house to those in a long term homeless situation to be able to start their recovery process with their primary need covered: having a home. Cristina León, a social worker at Saint John of God Terres de Lleida, explains it to us: "As of having a home, they mark their recovery and integration process". In the city of Lleida, there are currently ten apartments and 12 participants.
Questions to think about
- How do you think it might help someone in his/her recovery process the fact of having accommodation prepared for them, allowing them to shop, etc.?
- Why do you think someone might decide to share an apartment with someone going through the same situation?
